Gwendolyn is the youngest of King Lothe and Queen Morgeause’s four children. Born in the mountains fjords of the Northern Wilds, Gwen spent her early years on the water fishing, herding animals in the fields and following her brothers around. Her parents saw that she showed far more prowess smashing things than the literary or arcane arts, and put her to combat with the rest of her siblings. Gwen developed talent with a battle axe and as a shield maiden when needed. Even though she loved the feel of an axe or two in hand, her blood did not sing the way of the berserker.
While on a routine hunt, Gwen became separated from her brothers and was lost in the fog of the Wilds. Out of the mist a matted, blood covered bear appeared and charged toward Gwen. She swung her axe and hoped for the best as the beast’s body fell on top of hers. After she realized she wasn’t dead, she shoved the bloody mass off of her. In the snow she saw a giant, glowing primordial sprit in the shape of the beast. Gwen became a warrior on primal path of the bear.
War between the Fraxinus Empire and the Northern Wilds erupted when Gwen was a teenager. At the age of 17, she began to go into battle with her Father and brothers. After four years of struggle, the tides turned favorably toward the North, but King Lothe fell in the Battle of Bedegraine. In accordance with the peace treaties, Queen Lothe was allowed to rule the frigid parts the Northern Wilds and acquiesce the Southern Isles to its new king, Aurelius. Gwendolyn and her brothers Agravain, Gaheris and Godwin were sent to be knights under Aurelius’s new command.
Despair over leaving her home and losing her father, Gwen now wanders the streets of Carleon trying to find her place in this new life she has been thrust into. She is all but lost until a knight covered in greenery on top of a green horse enters into the festivities of the New Year’s Day Feast.
